Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a wall or surface needs repainting?
Look for peeling, flaking, fading, or water stains. And look up! Paint in elevated spaces, especially outdoors, is more likely to be thinly applied, so is more susceptible to deterioration. If your paint is starting to lose its shine or you see cracks or holes in the finish, it’s usually time to freshen things up.
What steps do you take to protect the building, its contents and surroundings during painting?
We carefully cover floors, furniture, and fixtures to keep dust, paint, and mess to a minimum. For exterior jobs, we will protect plants and gardens with lightweight cover.
How do you handle matching existing colours or textures?
We take time to study the existing finish and do trial mixes or texture tests if needed — the goal is for repairs to blend seamlessly. Unfortunately photos are not great for colour matching and where that is expected to be an issue, we will visit or ask you to take a paint sample for matching at a paint retailer.
How long should I expect the paint to last before needing touch-ups?
Interior painting is more likely to need refreshing due to human contact before the paint wears out. Exterior paint durability is very dependent on UV exposure and temperature fluctuation. With proper prep and quality materials, most paint can easily last 10 years indoors and 5 years outside, depending on exposure and wear.
Do you do spray painting?
For large interior jobs, when the space is not occupied, spray painting is a good method. It's trickier outside on very weathered surfaces (where a brush or roller still has to be used to fill the cracks) or on rooftops, where Wellington's wind often makes a roller a faster way to achieve a high quality result.
Can you help move furniture or clear spaces before you start?
If you want to move things yourself that's fine, and we can help. Or we can do it as part of our prep. We’ll let you know what’s helpful ahead of time.
What types of home repairs can you safely handle?
We do not undertake plumbing, electrical, or bathroom / kitchen installation. But other than that, from deck and floorboard repairs to ceiling patching, cladding fixes, and small carpentry jobs, we can tackle most common household repairs.
Are accessibility modifications or safety improvements something you can assist with?
Absolutely. We can install rails, fix steps, adjust doors, and help make your home safer and more comfortable.
How often should gutters be cleaned?
Usually yearly, but it depends on your property and the height of nearby trees. If you see any sign of water overflow, warping, or plants growing in gutters you should have them cleared. The extra weight caused by water buildup in gutters can cause damage to brackets and spouting.
What should I do if I notice a problem after a repair or paint job?
Let us know right away. We check our work carefully, but if anything pops up, we’ll fix it promptly.
Do you give fixed price quotes?
Fixed price quotes are our normal practice. If there is a lot of uncertainty around a job, and we're truly unsure of what's involved, we may suggest another costing approach.
